My Jewelry is something that is always the highest focus for me, as I have always been drawn to wearable artwork. I recently found inspiration online in gemology again, and I missed working with metal and gemstones and just beadwork in general.
In addition, I have been using wire wrapping and beads again more recently. These organic shapes that I use involve a lot of swirls and hoops. This is a lot like when I used to do jewelry when I was younger, and is very reminiscent of that!
I try and use stainless steel chains and sterling silver earring hooks so they do not rust and cause issues for those who may have allergies. My jewelry is handcrafted by me purely and is cured with epoxy resin for some. I am constantly creating different designs and look forward to creating much more.
I went to college for an education in jewelry design when I was younger. I now still am making jewelry. With many methods to create, I find myself currently drawn to epoxy resin and using that to create a little scape for the 'found object' look in my jewelry. I also use that to capture the mosaic look even more recently as well with clay!
Jewelry crafting and design is something I actually went to college for. I ended up not pursuing that and doing other things, and for a while, my art skills remained dormant. It happens to a lot of artists, and unfortunately, it happened to me as well for some time. I was a single mother, and I focused more on my family and securing things for us at home rather than taking the time to create. I did little things, sometimes doing them with my girls, but it was not to the extent of my current creations. I did photography and kept creation in my life, but to a more minimal scale. Overtime, however, this would change.
This necklace represents the beginning of my epoxy resin making. It is important to me that I also still have this piece, and wear it often, as it holds strong memories for me. I have two girls, and my youngest was so upset and struggled when her older sister left for college, so I decided to see if she wanted to do a craft together to take her mind off of her sadness. Crafting was always a part of me and my daughters' lives, and all of us are very artistic in different ways. Despite this, she wasn't very interested, but I kept going with this. I was having so much fun creating again and I just kept going after so long of not doing that. It felt like me again.
So I created hundreds of necklaces and then earrings. That was where I searched out the gallery and the rest of my story is seen here in my site and in my fairs and in the gallery. I have learned so much from where I was when I first made this necklace, and I continue to learn as I craft my way through life.
OH Epoxy Resin!!!! How I love thee!
From what started with me learning with my jewelry into larger scale art pieces, has my love for this medium grown so much. This started on canvas and has developed into wooden backgrounds, and probably will evolve so much more.
The backgrounds are painted in various ways, sometimes to give a crackle look, woven effect, or even some splashes of color. I then use cut glass and miniature items like found objects such as corks, buttons, shells, ornaments, beads and so many more in order to create these works of art.
Each piece, like all I create, is one of a kind. I have branched out to different holidays throughout the year and even seasons. Pumpkins for the fall time, hearts for Valentine's day, with trees, wreaths and ornaments for Christmas time and even the ocean scenes.
These Christmas Resin Craft works are in collaboration with my tradition to make gifts for Christmas time.
I like to explore different ideas constantly when it comes to this, and I do plenty of different variations.
For this I used different beads and painted a canvas to look like an ocean-scape. I then used collected shells, dried plant-life and a glass ornament to embellish the scenery.
These cut glass flowers came to me with my love of nature and flowers specifically. I took bowls and decorative glass and broke them, arranging and dyeing it to create scenes of flowers.
I have an array of different designs, but I tend to lean more to delicate looking flowers.
I believe creating artwork out of not commonly used materials is a beautiful thing and a way to give the items a new life.
These glass bowls or decorative pieces were found from thrifting or family and friends who were looking to clean their cabinets and such out.
I made these carrot pieces for the Easter holiday and springtime, or just for anyone who really loves carrots.
I used buttons that were orange and brown and continued to use my wispy looking cut glass strands, called vitrigraph, in order to create the leafy green part of the carrot.
These were really fun to make and I am excited to do more of these kinds of crafts.
This flag among with other ones that I made were mostly for Flag Day or July 4th or to gift to a Veteran. These are also epoxy resin and made on canvas, but have more of a painted appearance to them.
I make a variety of ornaments for the Christmas season with a huge range in mediums. From using seashells to book pages to ribbon and mod podge, these wonderful little cheery Christmas Ornaments are born!
I have made Christmas Ornaments as a family tradition since I was younger, and given them out as gifts each year. Every year is something new and I absolutely love working on these bundles of joy that are now shared in many homes all over for the holidays! I tend to use a lot of things from donated old books that no one really wants any longer, or vintage napkins and textiles. I want to give the feeling of comfort and home to my crafts so they fit right onto your tree or around your own home.
There are plenty more as well!
Crochet baskets came about from crocheting a rug for my mom from an old duvet blanket that was torn and she didn't want to throw it out because she just loved it so much. I took it and carefully cut it up, creating a crocheted rug for her that she has in her walk-in closet. She cried when she saw it. I was able to repurpose something rather than let it go to waste or sit in a closet, collecting dust... and it felt really good. I then branched off from that and I went thrifting at second hand stores to ethically source out old linens, cleaned them and I got to work.
To go from making a rug, I decided I wanted to make other things, and with a background in crochet for things like hats, scarves, and blankets, I tried my hand in making baskets and playing with that idea. These baskets are amazing for holding various items, while adding a cute little decorative flair to your space. Many of my family members have at least one of these baskets, and I love seeing what they hold. I think hand crafted gifts made from once cherished items like linens and possibly forgotten about, can be made into something new and cherished once more.
My history of crochet goes into hats, scarves, rugs, as well as blankets. I have even made sweaters for a dog and a turtle in my adventures with the hook.
In the photo to the left is a family photo we all took with hats that I designed and crocheted for Christmas as gifts for every family member. It was a lot of work, but look at the smiles on their faces! Priceless.
Bringing family together with your art is such a beautiful thing. It is part of the magic behind it.
These were made for the theme of a Craft Fair. I do not really dabble in Halloween specific crafts, but I wanted to give it my shot. I might go for these again at some point, because I believe they were successful. They even light up!
Photography has always been an interest of mine. I love the work with angles and the colors and just finding the 'perfect moment,' specifically when it comes to taking photos out in nature.
I have always loved flowers, up close if I'm being specific. The angle of the shot speaks volumes. Bright colors, bees, lady bugs - they make for interesting composition for sure. There is just something about the delicate flowers interacting with our world that we overlook as we are so busy with our own hustle and bustle. Sometimes, taking a moment to slow down and just look at nature and spend time with it is important and crucial. When the world around you feels overwhelming, being with the flowers, trees and bees sometimes is the best thing for you.
The hummingbird photo was in my backyard and I look forward to him each spring. He makes for some of the best photos and is a very good model. Gorgeous little caterpillars turn into the most beautiful butterflies. With traveling for these photos to different areas, or just walking into my garden outside the backdoor of my home, I love taking these pictures and intimately interacting and capturing moments often overlooked.
This one was so hard to get the perfect picture, but good art comes with a lot of patience!
In my younger years, I spent time doing more of traditional forms of artwork. I do not have a lot of those to update, but I would love to share things like my paintings once more.
This piece to the left is one of the paintings I made in more recent years, and I would love to get into painting once more, so I will be adding those new additions when they are finished.
I am based in acrylic painting on canvases. I have history in traditional drawing with charcoal as well.
